Eiffel Tower / black and white

Look at the image below to see what my drawing looks like without the color black – ⁣

there’s only white⁣

We need darkness to see the intricate detail and beauty in the light. ⁣

Sadness is just as important as happiness – how would we know we were happy if we didn’t feel sad?⁣

If Sadness comes from a thought, are we always supposed to just think happy thoughts? ⁣

I don’t think so. ⁣

If we always thought happy thoughts, we wouldn’t even know what happy was to think about it. ⁣

We actually need sadness. We may bring more of it than necessary through our thoughts, but seeking to avoid it all together isn’t healthy or realistic or even possible. ⁣

When sadness comes, STOP and let yourself FEEL it. Find it in your body. Describe it. Watch it. Lean into it. ⁣

Later, notice what thought triggered it and decide IF you WANT to continue to feel sad or not. There are many times in life that we actually DO want to feel sad. ⁣

Our society labels feeling sad as failing – you’ve failed to be happy, you don’t think positively, or you gave someone else control over your feelings or you made an error that brought sadness. But sadness can be an important choice in your life.⁣

As always, this is very different from Depression. If you are feeling sad most of the time for more than a few weeks, ask for help today. ⁣

If you are sad occasionally, congratulations – you’re human! ⁣
